The NICU is located on the 8th floor of the St. Margaret’s Building and is a locked unit. Please use the phone outside the unit to call in before entry into the unit.

Hand washing and gowning
Prior to entering the NICU we ask that you complete a one-minute hand to elbow scrub in order to help prevent the transmission of everyday germs. The nurses will assist you with this prior to visit. Once scrubbed, please put a gown to cover your clothing.

Information about your baby
The NICU functions in a collaborative multi-disciplinary format with daily rounds of the team caring for your infant every morning in which your infant’s status and plan will be evaluated and decided. Information regarding the infant will be given to parents only. You may call and speak to a nurse caring for your baby to receive an update any time 24 hours a day. Family members will be asked to contact parents for the latest updates.

Birth Certificate
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your baby’s birth certificate please contact the Birth Registrar, Laura Mahoney. You can reach her at extension 7049 or by asking the unit secretary to page her.

Privacy and Confidentiality
We also ask that you visit only with your baby and that you not visit the bedsides of others in order for us to respect the privacy of all our patients and their families. Parents may take pictures and/or videotape their infant only.

Parking for Parent
Mother and support person are eligible for free parking while their infant is in the NICU. Please go to security office on Seton 4 for an extended parking pass. For further information call: 617-789-2222.

Family Lounge
Located across from the NICU is a family lounge with a TV and bathroom for parents to rest in during their visit with their infant.
